Genetic Counseling and Study
Families may pursue genetic testing for a child with Microphthalmia or Anophthalmia to better understand the cause of the condition, identify any related health concerns, learn whether the condition could affect future children, and determine whether a genetic variant was inherited or occurred spontaneously. Genetic testing can also provide a more precise diagnosis, guide medical care and genetic counseling, and contribute to research that may help other families affected by rare ocular disorders. Some families participate in research studies even when prior clinical testing has not found an answer, hoping to advance scientific understanding of these conditions.
For details about the study used by ICAN in previous conferences, please see below. Participating in the study can be free or low cost.
